Sun & moon alarms: sunrise, golden hour and the full moon

It's Friday evening and the sky over the water has gone gold. You're still at your desk, and you find out from someone else's photo.

Also called: golden hour alarm · sunrise alarm · sunset alarm · full moon alarm

Golden hour doesn't keep office hours. It moves a little every day, and so do sunrise, moonrise and the full moon, which is why no ordinary alarm clock can catch them. LFG Alarm can. Say "ring me at golden hour every day" and Rocco, LFG's agent, follows the sun for your city and moves the alarm with it. Your alarm clock now runs on the sky. Send it to your friends, and everyone's phone rings for the same sunset.

Alarms worth setting tonight

  • The sunset you keep missing. "Ring me and my friends 15 minutes before sunset every Friday." The time changes all year, and you never have to touch it.
  • The hike that starts in the dark. "Wake me an hour before sunrise in Yosemite." You're on the trail when the light hits the granite.
  • The photo you've been meaning to take. "Golden hour in Lisbon every day." Your phone rings while the light is still good, not after it's gone.
  • The howl. "Every full moon, ring at moonrise." Give it the wolf howl from the sound library and make it a tradition.
  • The longest day of the year. "Wake me at first light on the June solstice." Some days deserve an early start.

How to make one

  1. Open Rocco in the app and say it in plain words: "wake me an hour before sunrise in Yosemite" or "golden hour in Lisbon every day".
  2. If you don't name a place, Rocco uses yours. He asks once, and you can type a city or share your approximate location. Change it any time in Settings.
  3. Check the card: the moment, the place and when it next rings.
  4. Choose who it's for under Make it social, and tap Arm it.

Your AI app can make one too. See Using LFG Alarm from your AI agent.

Everything it can ring on

Moment What's happening
First light The sky starts to lighten, well before sunrise
Dawn Light enough to see outside, and the morning blue hour begins
Sunrise The top of the sun clears the horizon
End of morning golden hour The soft, low light is over
Solar noon The sun is at its highest, and it's rarely 12:00 on the clock
Golden hour The warm, low light before sunset starts
Sunset The top of the sun disappears
Dusk The last useful light, the end of the evening blue hour
Nightfall Fully dark, and the stars are out
Moonrise and moonset The moon comes up or goes down

Ring early or late. Pick up to two hours before or after any moment, like 15 minutes before sunset so you can get to the beach.

Keep it to special days. Ring only on a full moon, a new moon (the darkest sky of the month), an equinox or a solstice. "Every full moon, ring at moonrise" does what it says, and the wolf howl from the sound library is right there.

Once or repeating. Pick one date, the days of the week, or simply the next one.

Share it

Sun & moon alarms can be private, shared with friends, or public, like any time alarm. Everyone rings at one moment, at the alarm's own place: a sunrise in Yosemite is Yosemite's sunrise, wherever you're riding from. Your own clock shows you when that is for you.

Love someone's alarm but live somewhere else? Make a remix: your own copy at your place, with a song you pick.

Good to know

  • Times are accurate to about a minute, but they assume a flat horizon. In a deep valley or behind a mountain, you'll see the sun a little later.
  • Up near the poles, the sun can skip rising or setting for weeks. The alarm skips those days too.
  • It's a real alarm: on iPhone it rings through silent mode and Focus, and on Android it takes over the screen.
  • iPhone users: open the app after it rings, so your next one gets set.
  • It stays at the place you set, so it won't follow you when you travel. Make a new one for a new place.
  • To change the moment, make a new alarm. The clock can't be edited on an alarm that follows the sun.

Have your AI agent make it.

Paste this into ChatGPT, Claude, Grok or any AI agent that can add a connector, not into the LFG Alarm app. The setup steps come with it: get the LFG Alarm app, connect it to your agent once, and your agent makes the alarm in your account.

Use LFG Alarm to set a sun & moon alarm 15 minutes before sunset in [your city] every Friday, and call it "Sunset drinks".

Already have the LFG Alarm app and connected it to your AI agent?

Why it works. The time moves through the year, so you never have to look it up or fix the alarm.

More ideas: "Wake me at first light in Big Sur on Saturday", "Ring me and my friends at golden hour in Lisbon every day", or "Every full moon, ring at moonrise and call it Howl".

You can just ask, too. "When is golden hour tomorrow?" gets you the answer without making anything.

questions people ask
Does it move with the seasons?

Yes. Rocco works out the moment for your place each day, so a June sunrise and a December sunrise each ring at the right time.

Does it work with friends in other time zones?

Yes. Everyone rings at the same moment, and each person sees the time on their own clock.

Does it need my exact location?

No. Your place is a city or an approximate location, and an alarm can be set for anywhere you name.
