How to get your Meetup RSVPs to actually show up

Twenty people said yes to Saturday's hike. Six are at the trailhead. You're holding the coffee you bought for everyone and checking your phone.

Every Meetup host knows that feeling. Here's a way to turn more of those yeses into people who actually turn up: paste your Meetup link into LFG Alarm, share the alarm's link with your group, and everyone who joins gets a real alarm on the morning. It's a small thing that changes the whole day. When the phone rings at 7:30 and three friends are getting up too, staying in bed gets a lot harder. LFG Alarm is a social alarm clock for iPhone and Android.

What Meetup already does

Meetup's help pages say it sends reminders before an event, including a push on the day to people who RSVPed yes, as long as at least two people have RSVPed. Organizers can also use Contact attendees to send their own message.

So your group is already being reminded. An alarm adds the one thing a notification can't: it rings until someone does something about it.

How to do it

  1. Copy your Meetup event's link.
  2. In LFG Alarm, tap Got a link? and paste it. Rocco reads the name, the picture, the place and the start time.
  3. Under Goes off, pick At start, 30 min, 1 hr or 2 hr.
  4. Choose Public for an open group, or a friends alarm for a smaller one, and tap Create alarm.
  5. In Meetup, open the event, then Organizer tools, then Contact attendees, and send the alarm's link: "Tap this and your phone will ring before we head out."

Same group, every week?

If your group meets every Tuesday, you don't want a new alarm each time. Make a repeating time alarm instead, and share one link that works all year. The wake board adds some friendly competition: who got up first, who snoozed, who slept in.

For a morning hike, try a sun & moon alarm, so the group is on the trail when the sun comes up.

Three groups on Meetup

The Saturday run club. Priya's alarm rings at 6:45 for a 7:15 start, with "gate by the cafe" in the note.

The language exchange. It's in a different bar each month, so Tom's note has the address and the button opens a map.

The tech talk. It rings 1 hr before, right when people should be closing their laptops.

Let your AI set it up

try this

Have your AI agent make it.

Paste this into ChatGPT, Claude, Grok or any AI agent that can add a connector, not into the LFG Alarm app. The setup steps come with it: get the LFG Alarm app, connect it to your agent once, and your agent makes the alarm in your account.

Use LFG Alarm to set an event alarm from [your Meetup link] that rings 1 hour before it starts, and give me its link and a short message for my group.

Already have the LFG Alarm app and connected it to your AI agent?

Why it works. One request makes the alarm and writes the message. Connect LFG Alarm to your AI app first: see [AI agents](/agents).

questions people ask
Does everyone in my group need the app?

Everyone who wants the ring does. They tap the link and join in the LFG Alarm app.

Can it ring everyone who RSVPed automatically?

No. LFG Alarm doesn't connect to your RSVP list. People join with a tap, which also tells you who really means it.

How does it ring?

It's a real alarm. On iPhone it rings through silent mode and Focus, and on Android it takes over the screen, even when the phone is locked.
