Before you start
- Get the LFG Alarm app on your phone from Google Play or the App Store, and sign in. Zapier sets it off; the app is what rings.
- A Zapier account on a plan that includes Webhooks by Zapier. Zapier's help says Webhooks by Zapier and Filter steps are not on its Free plan; see Zapier's own plans for the current list.
- A Zap with a trigger you care about, such as a calendar event, a new payment or a form entry.
Make the alarm
- In LFG Alarm, on Alarms, tap 🔮 Anything.
- Name it for what it means, for example "VIP form" or "First sale". Nothing Zapier sends is shown on the ring screen, so the name is the message.
- Pick a Cooldown, the alarm's quiet time after a ring: 1 minute to 1 hour. Calls inside it do not ring again, so a burst of Zap runs rings once.
- Keep it private, or share it with the people who should hear it (an anything alarm is private or friends, never public), and tap Arm it.
- On the link card, tap Copy. Tap Test fire once to hear it on your own phone.
Add the step in Zapier
- In the Zap editor, click + to add an action step and choose Webhooks by Zapier.
- Under Event, choose POST, then click Continue.
- In URL, paste the alarm's link. It looks like
https://api.lfg.gm/horn/followed by 32 letters and digits. - Payload Type can stay as it is; LFG Alarm ignores the body.
- In Data, add one row, for example
ringon the left andyeson the right. Zapier's help says that if Data is left blank, every field from the previous step is sent; one dummy row keeps your customer or calendar details out of the request. Leave Headers and Basic Auth empty. - Test the step. Your phone should ring, and the response Zapier shows should include
"fired":true.
Add a filter so only what matters rings
An alarm that rings for everything stops being an alarm. Put a Filter step between the trigger and the webhook: click +, choose Filter, then pick a field, a rule and a value. The Zap only goes on to ring you when the condition is true. Use + And to add more conditions, or an Or group for alternatives.
Three Zaps that earn a ring
The meeting you cannot be late for. Priya runs a two-person design studio and loses track of time when she is deep in a file. Her Zap uses her calendar's event start trigger, set a few minutes before each event, and a filter that only passes events whose title contains "Client". The anything alarm "Client call" is shared with her co-founder, so both phones ring before the call starts and neither of them joins late.
The first sale. Theo has spent six months on a small app and launches on a Tuesday. His Zap watches Stripe for a new payment and POSTs to an alarm called "First sale". When the first one lands at 02:40, his phone rings and so does his brother's, who helped build it. After launch week he adds a filter for payments over $500, so only the big ones ring. Through a busy hour, a 1 hour cooldown means the alarm rings once, not twenty times.
The client who gets an answer tonight. Lena runs a small agency. Her enquiry form feeds a Zap with a filter on the email field: it only goes on if the address ends in one of three VIP clients' domains. Every other enquiry goes to the shared inbox as usual. A VIP enquiry rings Lena and her account manager, who both joined the "VIP form" alarm.
How it rings
On Android an anything alarm rings full screen, like an alarm. On iPhone it arrives as a time-sensitive alert with the alarm's sound, so keep the ringer on if you depend on it overnight. With an lfg.gm tab open on an awake laptop, it rings there too. See alarms on your laptop.
If it does not work
- Zapier shows 429. The alarm is inside its quiet time, so it already rang recently. That is the cooldown doing its job.
- Zapier shows 409. The alarm is switched off. Switch it on in the app.
- Zapier shows 404. The link is wrong, the alarm was deleted, or someone tapped New URL. Copy the link again.
- Nothing rings and there is no answer from LFG Alarm. Check that Event is POST; a GET does nothing.
- The Zap ran but your iPhone stayed quiet. Check the ringer switch and that LFG Alarm notifications are allowed.
