Anything alarms (webhooks)

An anything alarm in LFG Alarm gives you a private link. Anything that can send a web request to it (a script, a bot, Zapier, IFTTT, a site monitor, a phone shortcut) rings the alarm on your phone and on the phones of the friends you shared it with. It is also called a webhook alarm.

Also called: webhook alarm · API alarm · Zapier alarm

Make an anything alarm

  1. On Alarms, tap 🔮 Anything.
  2. Under Cooldown, pick 1m, 5m, 10m, 30m or 1h: the time after a ring during which more calls are ignored. 10 minutes is the default.
  3. Choose who it is for (private or friends) and tap Arm it.
  4. The horn card shows the link, with Copy, Test fire (rings only your phone), New URL (the old one stops working) and What's a webhook?.

Ring it

Send an HTTP POST request to the link:

curl -X POST https://example.com/lfg-webhook-link

Replace the placeholder with your own link. Opening the link in a browser does nothing, and nothing you send is shown: it just rings.

Examples

  • Your site is down. Point a site monitor's "down" alert at the link, private, 30m cooldown, so one outage rings once, not every minute.
  • A long job is done. Add the curl line to the end of a build or a training script and go to sleep. make release && curl -X POST <your link>.
  • A shared house alarm. An IFTTT applet that fires when the doorbell camera sees a parcel, shared with your flatmates as a friends alarm.

Good to know

  • Guard the link like a password. If it leaks, tap New URL, and update whatever calls it.
  • Anything alarms are never public, and riders cannot keep a copy if you delete one.
  • Deleted, the link answers "not found"; switched off, it says it is switched off, so a script you are debugging tells you the truth.
  • Once a second person rides it, the link is sealed too: New URL no longer works on it.
  • On Android it rings full screen, even on Do Not Disturb. On iPhone it arrives as a time-sensitive alert with the alarm's own sound, which can come through Focus but respects the silent switch, so keep the ringer on.
questions people ask
Does the request need a body or a key?

No. The link is the secret. A plain POST is enough.

What if my bot calls it in a loop?

The cooldown ignores further calls until it runs out, so a loop rings you once per cooldown. See also [How to make any app, script or feed ring your phone](/webhook-alarm) and [Alert when something happens online](/alert-when-something-happens-online).
