Riding an alarm: joining someone else's

Riding an alarm means joining someone else's LFG Alarm alarm from its link. You do not copy it or set it up: you tap the link, tap Wake me too, and your phone rings when theirs does, with the same sound and picture. Riding is free. LFG Alarm is a social alarm clock for iPhone and Android, where one shared link rings every phone that joined.

How to ride an alarm

  1. Open the alarm's link, lfg.gm/a/<alarm-code>, from a chat, a bio or Discover.
  2. Tap Wake me too. A friends alarm either lets anyone with the link in, or asks the person who made it to approve you; if they added you themselves, you are in straight away.
  3. When it goes off, it rings on your phone with everyone else's. Tap I'm up and you are on the wake board.

If someone added you to their alarm, it arrives in your notifications; tap it to ride along.

An example

Leo posts a link in the five-a-side group chat: a friends alarm for Thursday at 6:45pm, "Boots on, pitch 3". You tap the link, tap Wake me too, and it shows up in your Alarms list under Coming up. On Thursday your phone rings at 6:45pm with Leo's choice of song, at the same second as everyone else's.

What you can change

An alarm you ride belongs to whoever made it, so you cannot edit its time, trigger, title, sound or picture: that would change it for everyone. What you can do:

  • Snooze: set your own snooze length and count on the alarm's page. It applies to your phone only.
  • Turn it off for yourself, or remove it with Stop waking me.
  • Comment and heart on a friends or public alarm, under Reactions.

When the creator takes it down

If the person who made an alarm deletes it, it stays in your list marked Creator took this down, and you are asked whether to Keep my copy or Let it go. A kept copy is your own private alarm, with its trigger, so you are not left without the alarm you relied on. It is yours to change, but it stays private for good, because it is someone else's title and work. A percent price move on a kept copy is measured from the price when you keep it.

Anything alarms (webhooks) are the exception: a kept copy would never ring, because the link that sets them off belongs to the creator, so they are removed instead and you are told.

questions people ask
Can the creator see me?

They can see who is riding, and the wake board shows who got up. Other riders see the board too.

Does riding cost anything?

No. Riding someone else's alarm is free.

Can I ride alarms on Android and iPhone?

Yes. Links work across both, and on the web at lfg.gm.

Will a ridden alarm ring my phone as loudly as my own?

Yes, the same as if you had made it. Time and event alarms are real alarms on both phones. Post, price, trades and anything alarms ring full screen on Android; on iPhone they arrive as a time-sensitive alert with the alarm's own sound, which can come through Focus but respects the silent switch, so keep the ringer on.
