Alert apps compared: the fastest way to alert a person or a group

The fastest way to alert yourself, your family or your team depends on what has to happen on the other end. A group chat message waits to be read. A notification app like Pushover or ntfy delivers a push you can trigger from anything. On-call tools like PagerDuty break through silent mode for work incidents and escalate until someone responds. LFG Alarm, a social alarm clock for iPhone and Android, rings an alarm on every phone that joined, for a time or for a moment. Here is how they compare as of October 2026; we make LFG Alarm.

Start with who has to move

"Alert" covers very different jobs:

  • Someone should know, eventually. A message in the group chat is fine.
  • Your own script should tell you. A push from Pushover or ntfy is cheap and simple.
  • A production incident needs an engineer now, and someone else if they do not answer. That is on-call, with escalation.
  • People need to be up or out the door at a moment. That needs a sound loud enough to wake someone, on every phone involved, at the same time.

Most tools are excellent at one of these. The mistake is using a tool built for the first job (a message) for the last one (getting four people out of bed).

In PagerDuty, an escalation policy notifies the first level straight away, moves to the next level if nobody acknowledges before the timeout, and stops when someone acknowledges. LFG Alarm has nothing like that: it rings everyone on the alarm at once.

Four situations

The early flight. Grace, her partner and their two teenagers have to leave for the airport at 05:15. A message the night before ("we leave at 5:15!") is read and forgotten. One shared time alarm rings all four phones at 04:45 with the same sound, and the wake board shows who got up and who snoozed. Time alarms are real alarms on both iPhone and Android, so they ring through silent mode and Focus.

The solo developer. Arjun wants his backup script to tell him when it fails. He does not need to be woken; he needs to know by morning. A Pushover or ntfy push from the script is exactly right.

The production team. A startup's API goes down at night. They need the on-call engineer paged, and the next person if she does not respond in five minutes. That is PagerDuty's job, with schedules and escalation.

The small team without on-call. Two founders want one link their site monitor can call that rings both phones, with no rotation to manage. An LFG Alarm anything alarm does that, with a cooldown so a flapping site does not ring all night.

When to use which

  • Telling a group something, no rush: the group chat.
  • Your own scripts pinging you: Pushover or ntfy.
  • Work incidents with escalation: PagerDuty.
  • Getting people up or out the door, at a time or the moment something happens: LFG Alarm. Make an alarm, share the link, and it rings everyone who joined. With an anything alarm, any of the tools above that can send a web request can ring it too.

A shared time alarm from your AI agent

Your AI agent can set time alarms and add people today, your LFG Alarm friends by username and anyone else by email.

try this

Have your AI agent make it.

Paste this into ChatGPT, Claude, Grok or any AI agent that can add a connector, not into the LFG Alarm app. The setup steps come with it: get the LFG Alarm app, connect it to your agent once, and your agent makes the alarm in your account.

Use LFG Alarm to set a one-off alarm called "Leave for the airport" for 04:45 tomorrow, make it a friends alarm, and add [username] and [email address]. Then tell me who is on it.

Already have the LFG Alarm app and connected it to your AI agent?

Why it works. A time, a name, and the people to ring, and the agent confirms who is on it.

questions people ask
What is the fastest way to alert my whole family?

Make one LFG Alarm alarm, share it with your family, and let it ring at a time, or trigger it with an anything alarm. See [getting your whole family's attention](/family-alert). It is not an emergency service: in an emergency, call your local emergency number.

Can a group chat message wake someone up?

Not by default. A WhatsApp or iMessage message follows the phone's silent, Focus and Do Not Disturb settings unless the person has allowed that sender or app.

Is LFG Alarm an on-call tool?

No. It has no escalation policies or schedules. It is a social alarm clock.

Which alarms ring through silent mode on iPhone?

Time and event alarms. Post, price, trades and anything alarms arrive on iPhone as a time-sensitive alert with the alarm's own sound, which respects the silent switch, so keep the ringer on. On Android they all ring full screen, even on Do Not Disturb.
