Ring your phone from Home Assistant

To make Home Assistant ring your phone through LFG Alarm, give it an anything alarm's private link as a rest_command and call that command from an automation: "when the alarm system arms, ring my phone", "when the water sensor is wet, ring everyone in the house". Every phone that joined the alarm rings at once. Home Assistant's own MCP client cannot connect to LFG Alarm's server yet, so for now the link is the way in. LFG Alarm is a social alarm clock for iPhone and Android: alarms for times and moments, shared by link so every phone that joined rings together.

Also called: home assistant phone alarm · home assistant rest command · home assistant wake me up · leak sensor alarm phone

Before you start

  • Get the LFG Alarm app on your phone from Google Play or the App Store, and sign in, and so should everyone who should be rung. Home Assistant sends the request; the app is what rings.
  • Home Assistant with access to configuration.yaml (or the File editor add-on).
  • An anything alarm in LFG Alarm. ## Connect it
  1. In LFG Alarm, make an Anything alarm, for example "Water leak". Share it with the people who should hear it (friends alarms only; an anything alarm is never public). Copy its private link.
  2. Keep the link out of your YAML: add it to secrets.yaml:
lfg_water_leak: https://your-anything-alarm-link
  1. Add a REST command to configuration.yaml:
rest_command:
  ring_water_leak:
    url: !secret lfg_water_leak
    method: POST
  1. Restart Home Assistant (or reload YAML), then open Developer tools > Actions, run rest_command.ring_water_leak, and your phone rings.

Use it in an automation

automation:
  - alias: "Water under the sink: ring the house"
    triggers:
      - trigger: state
        entity_id: binary_sensor.kitchen_leak
        to: "on"
    actions:
      - action: rest_command.ring_water_leak

Good fits for a ring rather than a notification, because a ring is hard to sleep through:

  • Leaks, smoke and CO from sensors you already have, ringing everyone in the house.
  • The alarm system arming or tripping while you are away, ringing you and a neighbour who joined.
  • A freezer or a greenhouse going out of range overnight.
  • Someone at the door for a heavy sleeper upstairs, as an alarm instead of a chime.

After a ring, the alarm stays quiet for the time you chose when you made it (from 1 minute to 1 hour), so a sensor that flaps on and off rings once. LFG Alarm is not a monitored security or safety service; keep your real alarms and emergency numbers.

And setting alarms from Home Assistant?

LFG Alarm's MCP server (https://mcp.lfg.gm) lets an AI agent set alarms with a personal key. Home Assistant's Model Context Protocol integration, the one that lets its voice assistant use outside tools, currently connects only over the older SSE transport and signs in with OAuth only, with no field for a key. LFG Alarm's server speaks Streamable HTTP, so the two do not connect today. When Home Assistant's client adds Streamable HTTP and headers, this page will cover it.

questions people ask
Does Home Assistant need my LFG Alarm sign-in?

No. The anything alarm's private link is all it needs. Keep it in `secrets.yaml`; anyone with the link can ring the alarm, and you can replace it from the alarm's page.

Can one sensor ring several people?

Yes. Share the anything alarm with them as a friends alarm. Everyone on it is rung when Home Assistant calls the link.

Will it ring on silent?

On Android an anything alarm rings full screen. On iPhone it arrives as a time-sensitive alert with the alarm's sound, so the ringer should be on.
