# How to give your partner a heads-up they can't miss

Friends and groups · https://lfg.gm/partner-heads-up · Updated 2026-10-16

The easiest way to make sure your partner or co-parent does not miss the one thing that matters today is to send it as an alarm, not another text. LFG Alarm is a social alarm clock for iPhone and Android: you set one alarm for the moment, send your partner the link, and at that time both phones ring with what it is written right on the screen. One alarm a day that says "of everything today, do not miss this one" cuts through a day of forty messages.

## Most days are forty small things and one big one

If you share a life with someone, and especially if you share kids, your day together runs on a stream of small messages. Can you grab milk. Practice moved to 5. Your mum called. The plumber is coming between 12 and 4. Most of them can slide. You both know that, so you both skim.

The trouble is the one that cannot slide looks exactly like the others. "Pickup is at 3:10 today, not 3:30" arrives between a meme and a photo of the dog, and at 3:25 someone is still in a meeting. When schedules run across two homes, with a handover on Wednesday and a different school run on alternate weeks, the cost of that one missed message is higher and the other parent may not even be in the same chat thread.

So the useful habit is small: each day, the person who knows picks the one thing, and sends it as an alarm. Not a list. One.

## Three real days

**The early pickup.** Wednesday is half day, and Dani is the only one who saw the school email. At breakfast she makes a one-off alarm for 2:50 called "Mia, half day, gate at 3:10" and adds Marcus. At 2:50 his phone rings with those words on the wallpaper, in the middle of a spreadsheet. He leaves at 2:55. Neither of them had to ask "did you see my text?"

**The handover between two homes.** Jo and Chris live across town from each other and swap the kids on Fridays. Jo makes a repeating Friday alarm for 4:30, "Handover at 5, bring the inhaler", shared with Chris, who is added by email because they are not LFG friends. Both phones ring at 4:30 every Friday. When the plan changes, Jo edits the creator's note ("this week at the park, not the house"), which can change any time, even after the alarm is sealed.

**Date night that actually happens.** Ana books a table for 7:30 and knows Leo will be deep in a game at 6:45. She makes an alarm for 6:30 with the Your bestie voice and a photo from their last trip as the wallpaper, and drops the address into the call-to-action link, which opens when he answers. It is a nudge with some affection in it, not a nag.

## How it works

1. **Set the alarm** for the moment, or a little before it: leave time to actually act.
2. **Name it with the thing itself.** "Pickup 3:10" says more on a ring screen than "Reminder". The name and the wallpaper are what show when it rings.
3. **Send your partner the link**, `lfg.gm/a/<alarm-code>`, or add them by username or email. They tap once to ride it. See [Riding an alarm](https://lfg.gm/wiki/riding-an-alarm).
4. **Add the detail where it belongs.** The creator's note holds the address, the gate number, what to bring; people read it when they open the alarm, not on the ring screen. The call-to-action link opens a map, a ticket or a booking when they answer.

When it rings, it rings on both phones in the same second, and the [wake board](https://lfg.gm/wiki/wake-board) shows whether they tapped I'm up. Nobody has to be the one who nags.

## Making it a daily habit

A one-off alarm is right for "today's one thing". Once yesterday's has rung, you can open it in the app, set it for today's moment and change what it says: a one-off alarm whose moment has passed can be edited even after your partner joined, so it rings the same person again without them rejoining. See [Editing and deleting](https://lfg.gm/wiki/editing-and-deleting).

For the things that repeat (bins on Tuesday night, the Friday handover, the inhaler before swim), make one repeating alarm each and leave them running.

## Sweet or savage

- **Your own voice.** Record a voiceover in the studio: "Hey, it's the 3:10 one. Go." See [The studio](https://lfg.gm/wiki/the-studio).
- **A song about them.** Rocco can cook a short song about a person and a moment. See [Cooking with Rocco](https://lfg.gm/wiki/cooking-with-rocco).
- **A mystery alarm** keeps its video or message sealed until the second it rings.
- **Chaos level** sets how hard Rocco roasts a snooze, from mild to feral. It is each person's own setting, so your partner chooses how rude theirs gets.

## How loud it is

A time alarm is a real alarm on both phones. On iPhone it uses Apple's own alarm system, which rings through silent mode and Focus; on Android it takes over the screen even when the phone is locked. That matters for a parent in back-to-back meetings with the phone on silent.

## For couples in two time zones

A shared alarm rings both of you at the same moment by default, and each of you sees it in your own time: 9:00 PM for you is 8:00 AM for them. If you would rather both wake at your own 7:00, set it to ring each of you at your own local time. See [Time alarms](https://lfg.gm/wiki/time-alarms).

**Try this.** Paste it into ChatGPT, Claude, Grok or another AI agent that has the LFG Alarm connector (https://mcp.lfg.gm), not into the LFG Alarm app. The person needs the LFG Alarm app on their phone.

> Use LFG Alarm to set a one-off alarm for 2:50pm today called "Mia, half day, gate at 3:10", with "DO NOT MISS THIS ONE" drawn on the wallpaper, make it a friends alarm and add my partner [their LFG Alarm username or email]. Then send me the link.

Why it works: It sets the moment, puts the one thing on the ring screen and adds the person. An AI agent cannot add a creator's note or a call-to-action link yet, so add the gate number or a map link in the app.

## Common mistakes

- **Sending five alarms a day.** Then they become notifications again. One a day, for the thing that would actually hurt to miss.
- **Setting it for the deadline.** Ring at 2:50 for a 3:10 pickup, not at 3:10.
- **Putting the detail only in the note.** The note is not on the ring screen; the name and wallpaper are.

## Questions

### Does my partner need the app?
Yes, the free LFG Alarm app on iPhone or Android, to be rung.

### Do we need to be friends in the app?
No. You can add anyone by email, or send the link. Being friends just lets you pick them by name.

### Can they see my other alarms?
No. They only see the alarms you share with them.

### Is it free?
The app is free to download, and riding your partner's alarm is free.

## About LFG Alarm

LFG Alarm is a social alarm clock for iPhone, iPad and Android. It rings for times and for moments (a post on X, a stream going live, a token price, a wallet buying, an event starting), and one shared link makes every phone that joined ring together. Rocco, the cat inside the app, does the watching and the waking.
