# Custom alarm sound: wake up to your own song or a voice you know

Waking up · https://lfg.gm/custom-alarm-sound · Updated 2026-10-17

To wake up to a custom alarm sound, pick an alarm app that lets you upload your own song or record a voice, then put it on the alarm you actually use. LFG Alarm is a social alarm clock for iPhone and Android that does both: choose from hundreds of songs, voices and tones, upload any sound, record a voiceover to play on top, and share the alarm so a friend's phone rings with the same sound at the same moment. Rocco, the cat inside the app, can also cook a song for an alarm.

## Where the sound lives

Every alarm in LFG Alarm has its own sound, set in the studio: tap **Pick the vibe** after making an alarm, or open any alarm you made. The sound has two layers, and you can use either or both.

| Layer | What it is | Your options |
|---|---|---|
| **Music** | The song or tone that rings | **LFG picks**, your own sounds (**mine**), the genre shelves, or **Upload a sound** |
| **Voiceover** | A line spoken on top of the music | Pick a voice, upload one, or **Record one** |

Tap **Preview** to hear it ring before you save.

## The library

If you do not have a sound in mind, start with the shelves:

- **Songs** across hundreds of tracks, from Afrobeats and hip-hop to metal, Broadway and video game themes.
- **Voices with attitude:** Drill sergeant, Hype man, Toxic coach, The butler, Your bestie, Breaking news.
- **Loud tones** for heavy sleepers: sirens, horns and drums. If you are the person who sleeps through five alarms, see [the alarm for heavy sleepers](https://lfg.gm/alarm-for-heavy-sleepers).

The whole library is included in the free app.

## Use your own song or voice

1. Open the alarm in the studio and tap **Music**.
2. Tap **Upload a sound** and pick the file from your phone. It joins your own sounds under **mine**, ready for other alarms too.
3. For a spoken line, open **Voiceover** and tap **Record one**, or upload a voice memo.
4. Tap **Preview** to check how it starts. The first seconds are what wake you, so trim a long intro before you upload.

A voiceover plays over the music, so you can keep a song you like and add a voice on top: the song for the energy, the voice to say what the alarm is for.

## Three alarms worth making

**Your partner's voice for the early shift.** Mia works nights; Sam starts at 5:40. Mia records "Coffee's in the pot, go get them" as a voiceover on Sam's weekday alarm, over a slow song. It is the first thing Sam hears, even on the mornings they do not see each other.

**The team's song on match day.** Jordan makes a one-off alarm for 2:00pm Saturday, kick-off at 3, with the club's anthem uploaded as the sound and a photo of the team scarf as the wallpaper. Six friends ride it from one link. At 2:00 every phone in the group plays the anthem at once, wherever they are.

**A friend's ridiculous voice memo for the 6am run.** Priya sends the run club a voice note of herself doing a terrible sports commentator: "And they're OFF the mattress." Leo uploads it as the voiceover on the club's Monday, Wednesday and Friday alarm. Nobody snoozes the commentator twice.

## Shared alarms ring with the same sound

When you share an alarm, everyone who joins it rings with the same sound and the same picture. That is the fun part: the whole group hears the anthem, the commentator or the song Rocco cooked about them, together.

It also means the sound is part of what people signed up for. Once someone is riding the alarm, its sound and look are sealed and the rows show a lock. Pick the sound before you send the link. To change it after, make a new alarm and share the new link.

## Snooze and chaos

- **Snooze:** **Snooze for** 5, 10, 15, 30 or 60 minutes, **How many times** 3, 10 or forever, and **Silent snooze** if you do not want Rocco roasting you out loud. Snooze is personal: it applies to your phone, even on an alarm you ride.
- **Chaos level:** mild, medium or feral. It sets how hard Rocco roasts a snooze. Medium is the default.

Most people snooze at least some of the time. In a 2023 survey of 1,732 adults, 69% said they use snooze or several alarms at least sometimes. A fun sound does not stop that, but a voice you know, plus a friend who can see on the [wake board](https://lfg.gm/wiki/wake-board) that you snoozed, makes getting up easier.

## Cook a song

In the app, Rocco can cook a song or a voiceover just for an alarm: about a person, a crew or a moment, in the genre and mood you pick. The details do the work: a name, one true thing about them, and the moment it is for. See [Cooking with Rocco](https://lfg.gm/wiki/cooking-with-rocco).

## How loud it rings, by phone

- **Time alarms** ring as real alarms on both phones. On iPhone they use Apple's own alarm system, which rings through silent mode and Focus. On Android they take over the screen, even when the phone is locked.
- **Post, price and webhook alarms** need a connection, because the server notices the moment and tells your phone. On Android they ring full screen, even on Do Not Disturb. On iPhone they arrive as a time-sensitive alert with the alarm's own sound, which respects the silent switch, so keep the ringer on.

## Ask your AI agent to set it up

If you use an AI assistant such as Claude or ChatGPT with the LFG Alarm connector, it can make the alarm and hand you a one-time lfg.gm/upload link for your own song or voice. AI apps cannot pass a file from the chat to a connector, so you add the file on that page.

**Try this.** Paste it into ChatGPT, Claude, Grok or another AI agent that has the LFG Alarm connector (https://mcp.lfg.gm), not into the LFG Alarm app. The person needs the LFG Alarm app on their phone.

> Use LFG Alarm to set a repeating alarm for 6:00 on Monday, Wednesday and Friday called Run club, then give me an upload link so I can add my own song to it, and the alarm link to share.

Why it works: It sets the alarm first, then asks for the upload link for the song, which is how an AI agent gets your own file onto an alarm.

See [Using LFG Alarm from your AI agent](https://lfg.gm/wiki/ai-agents).

## Common mistakes

- **A song with a long, quiet intro.** You wake to the first seconds. Start the file where the song kicks in.
- **Sharing before choosing the sound.** The sound seals once someone joins.
- **The same sound for months.** You stop hearing it. Change it every few weeks.
- **Expecting a price or post alarm to break the iPhone silent switch.** Only time and event alarms ring through it.

## Questions

### Can I use any song as my alarm?
Yes, any sound file you have on your phone: tap **Upload a sound** in the studio. Use music you have the right to use, especially on an alarm you share.

### Can I record my own voice?
Yes. In **Voiceover**, tap **Record one**. It plays on top of the alarm's music.

### Will my friends hear my custom sound?
Yes. Everyone riding the alarm rings with the same sound.

### Can I change the sound on an alarm I ride?
No. It belongs to whoever made it, so a change would change it for everyone. You can set your own snooze, or make your own alarm.

### Is it free?
Yes. The app is free to download, time alarms are free with no limit on how many, and the whole sound library is included.

## About LFG Alarm

LFG Alarm is a social alarm clock for iPhone, iPad and Android. It rings for times and for moments (a post on X, a stream going live, a token price, a wallet buying, an event starting), and one shared link makes every phone that joined ring together. Rocco, the cat inside the app, does the watching and the waking.
