# Connect LFG Alarm to LM Studio, Msty and AnythingLLM

AI agents · https://lfg.gm/agents/local-ai-apps · Updated 2026-10-19

To connect LFG Alarm to a local AI app (LM Studio, Msty or AnythingLLM), make a personal key in LFG Alarm under Settings > Connected AI apps, then add LFG Alarm's MCP server, https://mcp.lfg.gm, as a remote server with an Authorization header of Bearer followed by your key. The model running on your computer can then set alarms that ring on your phone. LFG Alarm is a social alarm clock for iPhone and Android: alarms for times and moments, shared by link so every phone that joined rings together.

## Before you start

- **Get the LFG Alarm app on your phone** from Google Play or the App Store, and sign in. The local model makes the alarms; the app is what rings them.
- **A model that can call tools.** Small local models often ignore tools or fill them in wrong. A model with tool use in its card, and a context window of 16k or more, works far better.
- **A personal key**, since these apps connect with a header rather than a sign-in.

Your model runs on your machine, but setting an alarm means a call to LFG Alarm's server: the request leaves your computer, the way any remote MCP tool does. LFG Alarm only receives the tool calls, never the rest of the chat.

## Make a key

1. In LFG Alarm, open **Settings** > **Connected AI apps**, on [lfg.gm](https://lfg.gm) or in the app.
2. Tap **Make a key**, name it after the app (for example "LM Studio"), and tap **Make the key**.
3. The key is shown once, with **Copy** and **Done**. Copy it, then tap **Done**.

Keys start with `lfg_pat_` and work only at the LFG Alarm MCP server. A key acts as you: keep it in your own app on your own machine.

## LM Studio

LM Studio 0.3.17 or later. The quickest way is the install link, which opens LM Studio with LFG Alarm filled in: [Add LFG Alarm to LM Studio](https://lmstudio.ai/install-mcp?name=lfg-alarm&config=eyJ1cmwiOiJodHRwczovL21jcC5sZmcuZ20iLCJoZWFkZXJzIjp7IkF1dGhvcml6YXRpb24iOiJCZWFyZXIgbGZnX3BhdF9ZT1VSX0tFWSJ9fQ==). Then open `mcp.json` and replace `lfg_pat_YOUR_KEY` with your key.

Or by hand: in the right-hand sidebar open **Program** > **Install** > **Edit mcp.json**, and add this inside `"mcpServers"`:

```json
"lfg-alarm": {
  "url": "https://mcp.lfg.gm",
  "headers": {
    "Authorization": "Bearer lfg_pat_YOUR_KEY"
  }
}
```

Save, then turn LFG Alarm on in the chat's tools. LM Studio asks before each tool call unless you allow it.

## Msty

In Msty Studio, open **Toolbox** > **Add New Tool**. Choose **HTTP** (Streamable HTTP, for remote servers). **URL:** `https://mcp.lfg.gm`. Under **Headers**, add `Authorization` with the value `Bearer lfg_pat_YOUR_KEY`. Save, then switch the tool on in a chat. Msty Studio on the web needs Studio Desktop connected through Remote Connections or Sidecar for tools.

## AnythingLLM

AnythingLLM Desktop reads `anythingllm_mcp_servers.json` in its storage folder, under `plugins` (on a Mac, `~/Library/Application Support/anythingllm-desktop/storage/plugins/`). Add LFG Alarm inside `"mcpServers"`:

```json
"lfg-alarm": {
  "type": "streamable",
  "url": "https://mcp.lfg.gm",
  "headers": {
    "Authorization": "Bearer lfg_pat_YOUR_KEY"
  }
}
```

Open **Agent Skills** to start it, then use it in a chat with `@agent`.

## Try it

Once LFG Alarm is switched on in a chat, ask:

**Try this.** Paste it into ChatGPT, Claude, Grok or another AI agent that has the LFG Alarm connector (https://mcp.lfg.gm), not into the LFG Alarm app. The person needs the LFG Alarm app on their phone.

> Use LFG Alarm to wake me at 7:00 every weekday, call it "Get up". Then tell me the next date and time it will ring.

Why it works: A repeating time alarm and the next ring read back, which proves the key, the server and the model's tool use all work.

More ideas: "Make a friends alarm for Saturday at 9am called Golf and add my friend [username]", "Ring me when SOL hits $150", or "List my alarms". Through a key, LFG Alarm can set time, price, post, event, wallet, trader and anything alarms, pick a sound or a look from the library, and add your friends or a whole group once you confirm. See [Using LFG Alarm from your AI agent](https://lfg.gm/wiki/ai-agents).

## If it does not work

- **The model never calls the tool.** Try a larger model with tool use, or say "use LFG Alarm" in the message.
- **401 Unauthorized.** The header must be `Bearer ` and the key. Make a new key if this one was removed in Settings.
- **The server will not start in AnythingLLM.** Check the JSON is valid: no trailing commas, quotes around every name.

## Questions

### Does LFG Alarm run locally?
No. Your model runs locally, and LFG Alarm's server, which keeps your alarms and rings your phone, is online. The app on your phone is what rings.

### Which local model works best?
One trained for tool use. The app's model list usually marks it. If a model fills in the time oddly, give it the time zone in your message.

## About LFG Alarm

LFG Alarm is a social alarm clock for iPhone, iPad and Android. It rings for times and for moments (a post on X, a stream going live, a token price, a wallet buying, an event starting), and one shared link makes every phone that joined ring together. Rocco, the cat inside the app, keeps watch and wakes you up.
