# Connect LFG Alarm to Codex CLI

AI agents · https://lfg.gm/agents/codex-cli · Updated 2026-10-19

To connect LFG Alarm to Codex CLI, add `https://mcp.lfg.gm` as an MCP server in Codex's `config.toml` (or run `codex mcp add lfg-alarm --url https://mcp.lfg.gm`), then run `codex mcp login lfg-alarm` and sign in with your LFG Alarm account. Then ask Codex for an alarm while it works ("ring me in 30 minutes, when this refactor should be done"), and it rings on your phone. LFG Alarm is a social alarm clock for iPhone and Android.

## Before you start

- **Get the LFG Alarm app on your phone** from Google Play or the App Store, and sign in. Your AI agent makes the alarms; the app is what rings them.
- **Codex CLI** installed and signed in.
- Have your LFG Alarm sign-in handy. You will sign in once, on lfg.gm, to let Codex use your account.

## Connect it

1. In a terminal, add the server:

```bash
codex mcp add lfg-alarm --url https://mcp.lfg.gm
```

Or open `~/.codex/config.toml` (for every project) and add it yourself:

```toml
[mcp_servers.lfg-alarm]
url = "https://mcp.lfg.gm"
```

2. Sign in:

```bash
codex mcp login lfg-alarm
```

A browser opens on lfg.gm: sign in with your LFG Alarm account and tap **Allow**. Codex registers itself on its own, so there is no client ID to paste.

3. Start `codex` and type `/mcp`. LFG Alarm should be in the list of active servers.

The ChatGPT desktop app and the Codex IDE extension read the same configuration, so once it is added it is there too. These steps follow OpenAI's own docs; if a flag has changed, run `codex mcp --help`.

## Use it while Codex works

Codex runs long jobs: a refactor across a repo, a test suite, a migration. Ask it to set a one-off alarm for when the job should be done, then step away. Your phone rings out loud, which is hard to miss in a way a terminal bell is not.

- **Theo** asks Codex to set a 45 minute alarm called "Review the PR" before it starts a big rename, then goes for a walk.
- **Priya** runs an overnight data backfill and asks Codex for an anything alarm. Codex hands back a private link and adds a `curl -X POST` to it as the script's last line, so her phone rings when the job really ends. See [How to make any app, script or feed ring your phone](https://lfg.gm/webhook-alarm).

## Try it

Once it is connected, ask in plain words:

**Try this.** Paste it into ChatGPT, Claude, Grok or another AI agent that has the LFG Alarm connector (https://mcp.lfg.gm), not into the LFG Alarm app. The person needs the LFG Alarm app on their phone.

> Use LFG Alarm to set a one-off time alarm for 30 minutes from now called "Check the refactor". Then tell me the date and time it will ring.

Why it works: A one-off from now, which is how a wait in the terminal works, and Codex tells you the exact time.

More ideas: "Wake me at 7:00 every weekday and call it Standup", "Make a friends alarm for Friday at 4:00pm called Release and add my friends [username] and [username]", or "List my alarms". Codex can set time, price, post, event, wallet, trader and anything alarms; list, change, turn on or off and delete them; and add your friends or a group once you confirm. See [Using LFG Alarm from your AI agent](https://lfg.gm/wiki/ai-agents).

## If it does not work

- **The browser never opens.** Run `codex mcp login lfg-alarm` again. Adding the server does not start the sign-in on its own.
- **Codex cannot open a browser** (an SSH session or a container). Use a personal key instead: in LFG Alarm, open **Settings** > **Connected AI apps** > **Make a key**, put it in an environment variable, and add `bearer_token_env_var = "LFG_ALARM_KEY"` under `[mcp_servers.lfg-alarm]`. The key acts as you, so keep it out of shared machines and CI.
- **LFG Alarm is not in `/mcp`.** Check the address is exactly `https://mcp.lfg.gm` and that you edited the `config.toml` Codex is reading.
- **Still stuck?** Write to us from the [support page](https://lfg.gm/support).

## Disconnect

Run `codex mcp remove lfg-alarm`, or delete its block from `config.toml`. Your alarms stay in your LFG Alarm account and keep ringing.

## Questions

### Can Codex ring my phone when a script finishes?
Yes, with an anything alarm. Ask Codex to make one; it returns a private link, and a POST to that link rings every phone that joined. After a ring the alarm stays quiet for the time chosen when it was made, so a retry loop rings once.

### How does it ring?
A time alarm is a real alarm on iPhone and Android and rings through silent mode. An anything alarm rings full screen on Android; on iPhone it arrives as a time-sensitive alert with the alarm's sound, so keep the ringer on.

### Does LFG Alarm see my code?
No. LFG Alarm only receives what Codex sends when it uses LFG Alarm's tools.

## About LFG Alarm

LFG Alarm is a social alarm clock for iPhone, iPad and Android. It rings for times and for moments (a post on X, a stream going live, a token price, a wallet buying, an event starting), and one shared link makes every phone that joined ring together. Rocco, the cat inside the app, keeps watch and wakes you up.
